Gion Kobu, Miyagawacho, Pontocho, Kamishichiken and Gion Higashi
are the exclusive districts of Kyoto called Kagai where geiko (geisha in
Kyoto) and maiko (apprentice of geiko) culture is still vibrant. Gokagai
is the collective term for these five Kagai. This photo book introduces the
elegant world of geiko and maiko including a variety of traditional events
and seasonal “Odori” dance performances in spring and autumn.
